Goodwill Industries & Lake Michigan Credit Union Share the Warmth
10/02/2009
Grand Rapids, MI – Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids, Inc. is partnering with Lake Michigan Credit Union to encourage customers to ‘share the warmth’ by donating warm weather items. Beginning Monday, October 5th through Saturday, October 24th donations are being accepted at all Lake Michigan Credit Union branch locations.
“As we head toward colder months, items like sweaters, hats, and boots are needed to help the many families who shop at our Goodwill Stores,” said Vice President of Community Relations Jill Wallace. “By partnering with Lake Michigan Credit Union we are giving people 23 additional locations to drop off donations in addition to Goodwill Store and Attended Donation Center locations. Customers who make donations are providing resources that fund Goodwill’s job training and placement programs in our community.”
Items that are donated to the Lake Michigan Credit Union locations are sorted before being sold at local Goodwill Stores. Revenues from retail sales help fund job training programs that put individuals with barriers to employment back to work. With a struggling economy, more job seekers are looking for assistance which leads to an increase in demand of services.
“Companies and organizations like Lake Michigan Credit Union support our mission by providing convenient locations to accept donations,” said Wallace. “We encourage the community to ‘share the warmth’ which not only helps our shoppers, but ultimately puts people back to work.”
