Members of the AmeriCorps program expand and enhance Goodwill services by providing assistance to program participants in the form of career assessments, individual planning and goal setting, and assistance with identifying and obtaining needed supports. Members provide instruction, career services, resource navigation, and support to participants. Members serve both in teams and individually through national and community-based private and public organizations. Members help solve community problems through direct and indirect service in the areas of education, public safety, environment, employment training and other human needs such as health and housing.


Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids members will expand and enhance Goodwill services by providing assistance to program participants in the form of career assessments, individual planning and goal setting, assistance with identifying and obtaining needed supports such as transportation or child care, job skills training, job readiness services including assistance with preparing for, finding, and keeping a job.

Applicants must be at least 17 years old and a U.S. citizen, national or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S., and a high school graduate or GED recipient.

Skill Requirements

Experience working with individuals with barriers to employment is desired, but not mandatory. Efficiency with Microsoft Office, the ability to identify and develop resources, and experience conducting classroom instruction or one-on-one tutoring are beneficial. Desire to have a positive impact on the community is a must! Spanish speaking skills are a plus.

Term of Service

Full-time, 35-40 hours per week (or a total of 1700 hours) for 1 full year.

Living Allowance

$12,530.00 (before taxes). Living allowance is divided into 26 equal payments, distributed every two weeks.

Education Award

Upon completion of one-year term of service, members receive a $5,730.00 (before taxes) education award.

Student Loans

Members may qualify for student loan forbearance (postponement) of the repayment of their student loans during their term of service. The education award can be used to help pay back qualified student loans or to pay for future education expenses at qualified schools.


Full-time members are eligible to receive health insurance and may qualify for child care assistance.

Project Location

Members will serve in the greater Grand Rapids area.

Professional Development

Members will participate in on-going personal and professional development trainings, including Case Management, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Cultural Sensitivity and Life after AmeriCorps.
