It's What We Do...
Assessment
For most people, understanding their skills and interests is the first step to finding a job. Individuals meet with Goodwill vocational services professionals to discuss work experience and aspirations, identify their strengths and outline a plan for developing the skills they need to succeed in their chosen careers.
Training
Because people come from diverse backgrounds, Goodwill offers a range of short-term and long-term training options. Goodwill also offers in-depth workshops that teach people the soft skills necessary for succeeding in the workplace, such as office etiquette, work culture, preparing for an interview, how to deal with conflict in the workplace, and how to balance work and home responsibilities. Additional training options may include specialized training in the health care field, as well as transitional work and on-the-job training experience.
Job Placement
When individuals are ready to apply for jobs, Goodwill provides resources to help them conduct job searches, write resumes and practice their interviewing skills.
Job Retention
Starting a new job often presents challenges to people not used to balancing work with other responsibilities. Goodwill staff regularly consult with individuals on how to handle situations such as crises at home or understanding employer expectations. In some cases, more intensive services such as on-site job coaching are offered.
Support Services
In order to stay employed, individuals may seek out additional services such as transportation or counseling. Goodwill offers some of these services, and also serves as a primary link between individuals and other service providers within the community.
