GOODWILL OF GREATER GRAND RAPIDS TO OPEN NEW RETAIL STORE IN CALEDONIA FOLLOWING GENEROUS LAND DONATION FROM THE WILLIAM SHURLOW FAMILY
Grand Rapids, MI – In a significant act of generosity, the William Shurlow Family has donated a parcel of land to Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids. Located at 6459 Cherry Meadow Dr. SE in Caledonia, this land will serve as the future home of Goodwill’s newest retail store, contributing to the mission of changing lives and communities through the power of work.
“We are deeply grateful for the generous donation made by the William Shurlow Family,” said Jill Wallace, President and CEO of Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids. “While this land will allow us to build a store, the impact of this donation will extend far beyond the walls of our building.”

Goodwill is known for being a major thrifting destination, but many people are unaware of how Goodwill uses retail sales to positively impact communities. For every dollar spent at Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids stores, ninety cents goes towards providing programs and services to people who are facing barriers to employment.
These services include skills assessment, training, interview preparation, job search and placement assistance, employer and community resource connections and job retention support.Goodwill of Greater Grand Rapids offers these services at the Goodwill Employment Center, serving over 2,158 participants annually.
“The William Shurlow Family’s donation is not just giving us land to open a new store. It’s helping us further our mission of providing support services and training to people who face barriers to employment,” Wallace said. “Goodwill is a great place to shop, and it’s an even better place to improve the trajectory of your life.”
To commemorate the William Shurlow Family’s generosity, the largest training room at the Goodwill Employment Center will be named in the family’s honor.
Goodwill is proud to partner with Pinnacle Construction Group on construction planning and development. The new retail location will serve as a model of improvement for existing retail locations.
Construction is expected to start in the fall. Additional updates will be shared as development progresses.
